By the tenth month, your child is mobile. She enjoys exploring and trying out new things. She must have started standing on her feet. Some babies move from crawling to standing and then to cruising during their tenth month. Her independent steps are close by now. But she may prefer to stick to her sofas and walk for some time now.
Please remember that the appropriate time which a child takes to walk is about 18 months. So if your child has not started cruising in her tenth month, do not be afraid. She still has many months to go.
She will now be working on finer motor skills. She will be picking you small things like cheese cubes by gripping them with her fingers and thumb. She will also be transferring objects from one bucket to the other. This is a real milestone which she has achieved.
Her language skills are still developing at a great speed. Meaningful gestures are now used by her. She will be comfortable with clapping and bye wave. She will also understand some instructions like “show me you hands”. She may also understand and completely ignore you. She is not being naughty; she just wants to know her limits.
Now is the time to introduce some disciplines to her. She is not old enough to remember what you are telling her. You may have told her the same thing earlier. But now she will remember them.
While introducing instructions, remember you are also teaching her to be careful and be safe. You are also laying the foundations for good manners and teaching her right and wrong. You are basically teaching her to be a good citizen. But now, not always give instructions. She may then start ignoring them. Save them for better times.
