Congratulations! Your baby is now approaching the first year of her life. Earlier you used to count her age by months. Now you can count her by years. She is becoming increasingly independent and can now stand without holding and is about to take her first unaided steps. Help her to spread her feet. It will increase her ability to balance.
Your baby has come through a long way now. She has grown from a helpless baby to a strong and mobile child with a number of developmental skills. Some babies may have started walking and talking. But there is nothing to worry if your baby has not. Every baby is different.
By now your baby has achieved the following milestones:
- Sit strongly for a longer time.
- Move from one room to another on her own way.
- Respond to her name and many more familiar words which she hear everyday.
- Recognise her family.
- Pick up small objects independently.
- Pass large objects from one hand to the other.
- Feed herself by finger food.
From now on your baby can sit on the dinning with you and eat almost everything you are eating. You just need to keep a check on her salt intake. It is recommended that she takes not more than 2 grams.
Making your life easier, your child can drink cow’s milk now. This means she does not require any more formula milk and breast milk. It is time to switch over to ordinary milk.
It is time to wean your child from using a bottle to a cup. Excess bottle feed can cause dental problems and also the risk of anaemia. Start using a cup. Many parents give a bottle feed to their child which puts her off to sleep. This is not a good practise.
Try to give her more of solid food. Train her to eat as per routine which you and your family follow. |
